The Broken Wing Fund
November 10, 2011 posted by Admin

THE BROKEN WING FUND

WHAT IS IT?      In a nutshell, it is a benevolence fund for members of what can be broadly described as “The Fantail Family”.  In using the word “member” does not  imply that one must be a member of any club, just that they should be generally accepted as primarily a Fantail Fancier.

BACKGROUND   The initial concept for this fund was born in response to a desire to do something…..anything, to help Jim Schneider have access and ability to make out-going phone calls.   Jim, as most in the fancy know, has long been a Fantail man even though wheelchair bound for a good many years.  In the facility that Jim now resides in, he was able to receive incoming calls, to an extent, on the facilities phone system.  The basis of the idea was discussed with Earl Biederman (Earl came up with the name)  and golly, tenacious Earl went to work on the phone and internet contacting the various Muscular affliction societies and so forth looking for solutions or supporters.  This is still on going.

In hindsight though…. Had this been an existing fund rather than one in it’s development stages….. another perfect example of  potential use would have been to assist Rick Berg and his family a year ago when they lost their home to fire.

HOW WILL IT BE FUNDED   In the beginning, individual personal donations were all that were envisioned.  Since then the CCFC has decided, as a club to participate in this  to contribute, as a part of their band profit sharing program, 5 cents per band sold to Canadian Fanciers.  For the many U.S. fantail folks that use the CCFC bands this fund will now be an option to which you may direct the profit sharing on each band purchased. Perhaps…..all fantail clubs could in some way contribute.

ADMINISTRATION   Earl Biedermann has been asked to set up an account separate and distinct from that of the Central Fantail Club.  It is proposed that the Presidents of the major regional North American fantail clubs as well as the CFC be the directors of the fund.  They shall receive requests for aid and decide the merits of, and to the extent that the fund can or cannot assist.  The whole premise or rational for this leadership is that “ownership” of this fund be attributed to the fantail fancy at large….not any one particular club.

As sure as there will be another breeding season next year, so too is it inevitable that at some point in the future, someone in our “Fantail Family” will need a helping hand.  Lets be ready.

Thank you,

Steve Wallace CFC President.

More Importantly Fantail Breeder

NOTE: When Steve first told us about this idea, we loved it... We ( Jeff and I), have decided that any Pigeon Breeder, (Not Just Fantails) who uses thepigeoncoop.ca to sell their birds:

10% of the $2 posting will go to The Broken Wing Fund. Also, anyone using our site to post a Breeder profile, we will give 10% to the Broken Wing Fund as well. The profile will also be on the site for 2 years. All Fantail Clubs in North America who support The Broken Wing Fund, get free ads and all club postings, shows etc. We believe this Fund is a worthwhile cause. Together, we can all give back.

Allison, xo

Lou Gehrig's Disease Charity Auction
October 17, 2011 posted by Admin

Our first charity auction will be starting later this Fall. It will be for Lou Gehrig's Disease in memory of Don Simpson. Don was not a  pigeon breeder. He was a Husband, a Father and Grandfather to some very special people. He was diagnosed with ALS in the spring of 2011, died a few short months later. Nobody, should have to go through what Don and his family went through. Together, we as pigeon breeders can make a difference. We are asking ANYONE who wants to raise money for this charity to email us. Thus far we have Fantails donated from Brian Pogue, Dani Falcone, Tuffy Affleck, Mike Boyd, Bobby Phillipo, Clint Robertson and ourselves. We are hoping for 10 pigeons to be auctioned off. If you are interested in helping fight ALS, please email us. Thank you !!!
